In the event that the offense switches strength, Michigan doesn't want to have to flip their formation, so you have to be able to switch assignments. There are still times the 3T on the weak side has to stand up to a double (weakside Power for instance). So you are mitigating the problem, but not doing away with it.<br /><br />Durkin will also make slight adjustments to the Under front, moving some guys a gap over here or there depending on what the threats are from the offense. On top of that, Michigan's nickel package is generally and Over front, in which case the 3-Tech lines up to the TE side.<br /><br />Michigan will mix up what they do up front on standard downs though. From what I could gather, SAM typically lines up opposite the SS, in an under front, the Buck will typically align to the boundary (not always), and in the nickel, the Buck will align to the field.
